Google Chrome OS

Google Chrome OSGoogle has unveiled more details about their Chrome OS. It is a lightweight, browser-based operating system developed for netbooks.

They have strongly focused on speed, the Chrome OS will nearly bootup in  about 7 seconds for users to login to their computers. In short it will boot up as fast as like a TV.

The first Chrome OS netbooks will be available in the market in late 2010. Of course it will not be available as a download to run and install. In spite of this, Chrome OS is only going to be shipped on specific hardware from manufacturers Google has partnered with. It just means that if you want Chrome OS, you’ll need to purchase a Chrome OS device.

Chrome OS netbooks is not going to have usually used hard disk drives, instead of this, they will be depending on non-volatile flash memory and Internet-based storage for saving all of the data.

All the applications will be web-based, so the users will not need to install apps, manage updates or even backup their data. All the data will be stored in the cloud, and the users will not even need to think about anti-virus software. As it is a Linux-based open-source operating system, the applications will run completely inside the browser.

The pricing is yet to be announced on netbooks shipping with Chrome OS, but Google expects the cost to be about the same as current netbooks, between $300 and $500.
