Google with the new Optical Character recognition or OCR will enable user to search any web hosted document in the PDF file Format developed by Adobe Systems. It is Pursuing the ultimate goal of becoming the Holy Grail of Search Engines.

Earlier there was no way to include any scanned documents, as it was impossible to determine the nature of content in these documents but thatnks to OCR its possible now.

For people who dont know anything about OCR its quite simpe, Google will convert the Scanned Material in Text format which can be scanned and then index to retrn the reponce to a search query.

According to Google product manager Evin Levey “his is a small but important step forward in our mission of making all the world’s information accessible and useful.”

This will also help Google to boost its Google Book Search for which google has been scanning world’s major libraries at a rate of 3,000 book titles per day.

There were many obstacles in Google’s Book search regarding the copyright concerns but that to has been sorted out after Google’s Agreement with the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers.

Google’s Book search will also help create a new market for authors and publishers to sell their works online.

This will wave a path for the Holy Grail of Search where people can easily find relevant data in scanned materials on the Web Hosted Content.

Also to support next generation search engine and to enable serach engines index multimedia content produced in the Flash file format Adobe has recntly upgraded the Adobe Flash Player technology.

The current generation Search Engines are only able to index Multimedia content which has been tagged in text format which is a quite cumbersome and time-consuming process. But all this is going to change sooner than we can predict.
