Mistakes in Dark Knight (Bloopers)

1) In the scene with the exploding hospital, the Joker has rigged what seems like every room in at least the wing shown on our right (since the explosive charges set off one at a time). It would require an absurd number of man-hours setting up so many explosive charges without being discovered, but the Joker has only been in the business of terrorism for a very short while.

2) When Batman is talking to Lucius about the sonar cell-phone technique, he uses the growly “Batman” voice, even though Lucius knows Batman is Bruce, and the disguised voice is entirely useless.

3) When the Joker tells Harvey Dent that “he is not a planner,” Dent seemingly believes him straight away, despite having been a target for the Joker’s plans several times prior to that.

4) During the exterior scene at Gotham General (right before the explosion), the interior of the building is seen. It is unnaturally empty, with the exception of some cables, rigging and explosives for the visual effect explosion. It is obvious the location is not a large general hospital, but a medium sized office building.

5) During the bank robbery scene, why doesn’t the man with the shotgun spit out the explosive that The Joker puts in his mouth? Even if it would explode anyway, I don’t understand why he would keep that in his mouth.

6) When Batman is about to dive off the building in hong kong to kidnap Lau, he is wearing a high pressure mask with breathing apparatus that cover his face. However when he finally crashes through the building, the mask and helmet change to the normal Batman mask.

7) After Batman has thrown Maroney off a two story height which surely would break both legs, Maroney is seen walking a few days later with apparent ease.

8) In the “Clowns are hostages” scene, where Batman and Fox are using the cell phone sonar – there are no cell phones in the building – it’s a construction site and the only people in the building are the Joker, the Clowns, and the Doctors. Even if each of them had a cell phone – Batman and Fox both see all of the empty floors of the building perfectly.

9) The technology used to make Batman “see through walls” is explained as using cell phones as sonars. However, Batman is capable of seeing all floors and angles of the building, even where no cell phone are present, to a degree that only makes sense if cell phones had been scattered randomly across each floor.

10) When Gordon comes back, he taps Joker and when Joker looks up, for a split second, you can see that he doesn’t have a scar on his face. Then when he turns back, the scar appears.

11) Joker and Two-face are in the hospital; Harvey is about to flip the coin to decide if the Joker lives or dies. The camera angle switches back and forth between the Joker and Harvey. From one angle Harvey is wearing the monitor clamp on his middle finger with the grey wire, from the other angle it is gone. It disappears and re-appears every time the camera angle changes.

12) In the scene where Alfred is stitching up Bruce, Bruce says “I was meant to inspire people” and as he says “people” the shot changes and his lips aren’t moving but the audio track continues.

13) When Harvey Dent loses his face and is lying in the hospital bed, when he’s turned with the damaged side against the pillow, we can see the inside of the side of his mouth which should be damaged, but it’s fully intact. Then when he turns it’s suddenly burned away.

14) During the bank robbery in the beginning, the Joker’s hair turns from brown to green within one shot.

15) After the tunnel ambush when they get air support again they show the view from the helicopter of a SWAT member with an M16 and an EOTech sight attached. If you look closely the red dot scope is mounted backwards on the weapon.

16) On the prisoner’s ferry, supposedly just before midnight, the prisoner stands up to take the detonator from the guard. As he stands up, the clock shows it’s roughly 11:30/11:35. Then his body covers the clock and he moves forward. When you see the clock again, it shows it’s just before midnight.

17) In the scene where Bruce Wayne is standing on top outside of the building without his mask on you see his whole face. Once he puts the mask on the dark rings around his eyes magically appear black even though he didn’t put any make-up on.

18) When pointing the gun at himself, the Joker’s finger is on the hammer in one scene, and in the next, his finger is pointing straight up.

19) During the Batman/Joker interrogation scene, the amount of make up on Joker’s face changes between shots. This is particularly noticeable on his chin and forehead, and is not consistent with reasonable rub off from the altercation.

    1. You assumed Joker started planted the bomb after he announce his threat on television. However, The Joker can possibly planted all of those long before that, even before he was caught. Remember, even when The Joker was caught, his henchmen were still there. After he escape, he took over most of Mafia’s men and based on the scene, the mob’s men loyalty must have switched before he burned the pile of money.

He doesn’t even need to blow every room if you remember 9/11.

    2. Because he wore Batman mask. No matter to whoever he talked (Alfred or Lucius) he would prefer to be on Batman mood instead of Bruce Wayne mood.

    3. No, he didn’t believe Joker words as the whole truth. He only believes Joker words may contain truth. He believes Joker was right when he blame Gordon and the mob. Therefore he chose to put the option of believing in his coin.

    4. inevitable blooper. Can’t avoid that.

    5. Because, spit out the grenade was useless. His leg was shot. He couldn’t run from the grenade

    6. no, I didn’t notice the breathing apparatus covering the mouth. I checked it with the film clip “Break In” from IESB.net and I saw nothing covered the mouth.

    7. There are two scenes Maroni appeared after his leg was broken. The first one was on the hospital and yup.. That was blooper. The 2nd one was before he entered the car where Dent was already there, and he used cane.

8 and 9. You’re half right. Actually, the ‘phone as sonar beacon’ was one of the weakest point. It’s hard to believe that every person in Gotham has bought or changed their phone to Wayne’s new cellular phone. Bruce Wayne got the idea after he used the device on HK.

However, you’ve got the wrong idea. Imagine you have three receiver in three arbitrary location and three of them got the earthquake signal. Based on how strong the signal, and some calculation method, you can have the origin of earthquake, including the depth of the origin.

Hence, as long as at least three people on the building have the phone which function as both relay and receiver, it should be possible to measure all object in every altitude. The only problem is determine the correct wavelength to through walls and floors and totally bouncing after passing a number of dense object.

    However, as I said before,
assuming all of Gotham people use new Wayne cellphones, centralizing all the received data and doing calculation on them would need very large resources. The sonar itself also work as bug for normal sound wave and any radio-wave receiver and those feature need more resource.

We haven’t even count the search pattern for Joker voice. There is algorithm to search the pattern, but doing that on a lot of data?

The only possible way to compute those large data is doing the computation in every region separatedly, independently and then only send the relevant result to the mainframe. The problem is, it will need more resources.

Even when Bruce Wayne had all the resource he needs, using the method will be contra-productive since he didn’t see with his own eyes. He received 3rd-person view when he used sonar-mode.

I got dizzy when saw all the 3D-white-objects on the screen when I saw the movie and Bruce Wayne would feel the same. It would be totally useless unless Batman didn’t directly use ‘Sonar view’ and only interact indirectly by coordinating with Lucius Fox (but he did see on ‘Sonar view mode’).

    17. That’s the common problem for all Batman movies. In the story, there are no make up at all, it would be part of the mask. In reality, however, the black make-up had to be added for make impression the mask are really follow the face.
