Now there will be some respite for people who shop online for DVD’s, Designer Dresses and Computer Games and more. Online shopping cheaper now that there are import duty waivers for few items.
Effective 1st December Internet Shoppers will not have to pay customs duty on products bought online for less than £105 from outside EU.
Earlier the limit was £18 and it has been increased by HM Revenue and Customs to provide some respite from the financial crises.
The duty rate was maximum for DVD players (14%) which has been waived off, however VAT will still be applicable on these items.
Also as per EU the import duty charges have already been waived off for mobile phones and books.
The Import Duty for Various Items is as follows:
- CD players 9.5%
- DVD players 14%
- Silver or Gold Jewellery 2.5%
- Imitation Silver or Gold Jewellery 4%
Tips for Online Shoppers.
It is always advisable when you are buying goods outside the EU how much are the import duty charges or other charges that come into effect.
Also always make sure that what is the item imported declared as, if there are any wrong declaration the item can be seized and the customer penalized for the same.
