With the option to have data capabilities within the same unit, the backup times can be reduced by 52% and restore times are reduced by 77% compared to the tape system. With the back and restoring in the same unit as the main drive, the cables that usually link the main system with its backup are eliminated which in turn helps to speed up the replicating and restoring data.

The Backup system offers up to 144TB of disk space and is suitable for small to medium-sized companies.

The PowerVault DL2000 comes with dell’s new TierDisk family of products which offers complete tiered storage. Users have an option to add an external Dell DL2000 tape library to enable back up stored on tape to disk quickly which also gives security of tape for offsite disaster recovery.

The PowerVault DL2000 comes with “factory-installed and verified” with the option of having CommVault Simpana or Symantec Backup Exec software. The price for the PowerVault DL2000 was not released. The prices will be out in late October.
